SurfCoastBlue vs. Bellarine Sharks – Draw 3-3

Both teams gave their all in the first half of the match played at Lake Reserve in near perfect conditions. Surf Coast captained by Seamus Wakefield held a strong line - aggressive in defence, consistent team work and good passes. Each side came close to scoring with disappointing near misses early on. Half time and the game escalated to another level. The pace was set when Surf Coast scored the first goal within minutes from a penalty kick. Our club is particiapting in Call to Arms.

Monday, 13 June 2011 09:55

Surf Coast FC has set up an affiliation between SCFC and the Call To Arms foundation. The aim is for the club to get together and raise money for research into men’s cancer as well as providing relief to those affected. Scarily half of all men in Australia will get cancer before the age of 85, meaning half the squad could be affected by this at some stage.

Anyway, Mick Woods has decided to do a half marathon run (21km) on 17th July and I figured it’d be a good opportunity to kick off the clubs fundraising for this great cause. We only have to look within the club to find people that could benefit from the Call to Arms efforts. So if you can spare a few dollars follow the link below and donate directly to the Surf Coast FC page. For those of you that don’t have access to credit cards I figure we can gather up the money (cash) at the club and enter it all together. Cheers Coasters!

P.S. Please pass this on to anyone I’ve missed between facey and emails!

No Winter Blues for Surf Coast

U/12 Boys Blue defeated Barwon 2-1

The game started out well with the ball going from end to end and our solid defence held Barwon to only one goal with the wind in the 1st half. The boys were excellent in the second half with the 1st of our goals scored by finn Barker who then followed it up with a somersault during his celebrations. A couple of minutes later Kalen Webb got on a break and beat the keeper for our second goal. It was then a nervous 10 minutes with barwon having a couple of chances to equalise. Keeper Cooper Haskett came out of the box and attacked the ball in a 1 on 1 situation and banged it back into attack saving the day. Our defence was solid all day and Karni Miller continues to improve and shows great leadership to all the boys in defence.

Surf Coast FC has kicked off a new competition for juniors, The Warralily Cup.

Surf Coast FC has a new soccer competition up and running for juniors, The Warralily Cup.

The Warralily Cup is being put i place for two reasons.

1. To give more kids a chance to play soccer, especially those who have not yet been able to have a go because of existing commitments to other sports.

2. To provide a showcase tournmaent for young juniors on the Surf Coast.

At the moment most children have to choose between soccer or netball and soccer and football (AFL). But now you can do both.

The Warralily Cup competition will be on a Monday evening, and go right through to the end of October.

The under 11s and under 13s competition boys competition is being held at 5 pm on Monday, with the girls under 13s at 5.15pm at The Quay on Horseshoebend Road, Torquay.

In 2012 The Warralily Cup will be transferred across to the new artificial surface at the new Surf Coast Sports Precinct, with other clubs invited to put in teams and participate in a tournament that will be fun and exciting.

It’s a 9-a-side competition played on a half pitch field under lights.

The Warralily Cup will be offered to existing registered Surf Coast FC players (including Small Sided Games and Academy participants) free of charge. Non-registered Surf Coast FC players who wish to participate will be charged a fee of $75 to register to play in this competition only.

Coaches will place players into specific teams after some consultation with players.

A fixture will be produced in the coming weeks and distributed to players via the website and email.

Players will be given a free Warralily Cup T shirt and MUST bring this T shirt and wear it during matches, and must wear blue club shorts and socks. Coloured bibs will distinguish teams.

For more information, ring Joe Taylor 0416241653 or Anna Leaming 0417399218.

SCFC u15 girls 4 vs Lara 0

It was a beauty of a game in driving rain on their home turf of Connewarre for the Surf Coast. The first half was played mostly in Lara's territory. The Coasters worked the ball effortlessly up the wing into mid-field and created lots of opportunities, with Dominique Sherry and Caitlin Hannah scoring a goal each in the first few minutes. Mollie Cooper dominated the centre mid-field.

Their good form continued in the second half. By slowing the game down, staying in their positions and thinking about their passes, they outclassed their opponents. When Lara won possession, the Coasters were determined in defence. Alannah Adam and Stella Bazidopolous were standouts on the back line.

Reports are thin on the ground this week !

Out at Conewarre, a strong wind kept things interesting and the puddles and mud-holes added to the spectacle as the two Surfcoast Under 14 girls fought out a contest that was easily as close as the other one going on this weekend.  Both teams have improved over the season and their final meeting for the home-and-away season was a nail-biter.  With two teams at this standard, Surfcoast FC's women and girls soccer is in great shape for the future.
